Making stuff with poles and ropes

Scout Pioneering is all about using materials at hand to make or fix things.

Braced bridge

It is the one thing Scouts do that other youth groups don’t.

Why do we mess around with poles and ropes?

It’s fun, lateral thinking, planning, teamwork, thinking about safety, constructive, creative, astounding, and good for a laugh.

JOTA/JOTI weekend Oct2001

We built some strange contraptions using a trailer axle and dolly wheel.

The real difficult bit was to make a steering mechanism.
At least three different versions were tried, this one worked the best...

Pioneering is the wickedest fun!

There were some bikes donated for the fete - they had flet tyres, but at least the wheels went round.

Lashed some poles across, some crossbracing, a couple of planks for seating and away!

 

Russell wanted to go it alone.. (or was he abandoned at the top of the slope?)

Monkey Bridge..

We often set one up at the Telegraph Station on Founders Day

 

All it takes is a bit of teamwork.
